The Pattern

You’ve been here before.
It’s starting to feel familiar.

Since you’re reading this application page, it’s almost without exception, you’re someone who is genuinely good at difficult things.

You run teams, manage practices, close deals under pressure. They have built something real. They are not soft, not lazy, not lacking in the kind of discipline that actually matters in life.

And then there is this.

The weight that has moved steadily in one direction for the last three years. The energy that disappears reliably by 2pm. The photo from last summer they couldn’t quite believe was them. The quiet awareness that they have been “starting again” for longer than they can honestly admit.

They have tried the things. The corporate gym trainer at 6:30am who was excellent until a major engagement made the schedule impossible. The app with the daily check-ins they stopped opening on day eleven. The elimination diet that worked until the client dinner in Dallas. The six-week challenge that reset the clock without moving the body.

None of it lasted.

“Not because I lacked willpower. I just could never figure out why it kept falling apart when I was doing everything right.”

That’s almost verbatim from a recent application. It captures something real.

The answer is not that you lacked discipline. It’s that every one of those programs was built for a different person in a different life. Someone with unlimited time, low chronic stress, and a kitchen that operates independently of a twelve-year-old with soccer practice on four nights a week.

They were designed for ideal conditions. Your life is not ideal conditions. It never will be.

That is not a character flaw. It is a strategy mismatch. And strategy mismatches have strategy solutions.

The Real Problem

The approach that worked at 32 was written for a completely different game.

Same plays. Different rules. No wonder it stopped working. It was never designed for this version.

Most people over 40 are still running a 25-year-old’s program: high-intensity cardio, eat less, push harder. That approach triggers cortisol, accelerates muscle loss, and produces rebound eating that erases the deficit within weeks.

Meanwhile, every year without targeted resistance training quietly costs 3 to 8 percent of muscle mass. That is the engine losing cylinders. The car gets heavier. The fuel goes further each year to move it less far. Not a metabolism that’s “broken.” A body operating on hardware that hasn’t been maintained.

Add chronic professional stress on top of that, a food environment built around other people’s preferences, and the maximum decision fatigue of your daily life arriving exactly when your willpower reserves are at zero.

The problem is not you. The problem is that you have been trying to solve an engineering problem with emotional effort.

Weight loss is a design problem, not a discipline problem. You do not win by trying harder. You win by redesigning the conditions so the right outcome happens without a fight.

That is what private coaching with me builds.

What This Is

Not accountability.
Architecture.

Private coaching is not someone to check in with. It is not motivational messages and a group chat and a progress photo every Sunday. You are intelligent enough to know those things don’t work.

Here is what it actually is.

1
Full terrain audit

Before we touch a single protocol, I need to understand your actual terrain. Schedule. Travel frequency. Eating patterns. Sleep. Stress load. The specific moments where your previous attempts broke. We do not design a plan until I understand the conditions the plan has to operate in.

2
Primary Levers: the small number of actions that do the work

Not a comprehensive program. Not forty habits. The specific three to five actions that, in your particular life, will drive almost all of your results. We identify those first. Everything else is secondary. A mediocre set of levers you actually execute beats a perfect program you abandon in month two.

3
Defaults: decisions made once, executed automatically

This is the mechanism. Defaults are not habits you build through repetition. They are decisions you make once and never make again. Your default breakfast. Your default order at the four restaurants you actually rotate through. What happens on a travel day. What the non-negotiable floor looks like during a brutal sprint at work. When the decision is already made, willpower is not required. That is the point.

4
Your Daily 3: what actually runs each day

Three specific actions drawn from your Primary Levers. Simple enough to execute under pressure. Specific enough to produce results. On a hard day, the Daily 3 is all you need. On a good day, everything else builds on top of it. The system is designed to hold under real-life conditions, not imaginary ones.

5
Weekly sessions + real-time access between them

We meet weekly. Between sessions, you have direct access to me. When the plan hits something unexpected, and it always hits something, we adjust in real time. Not in the next scheduled call three days from now. The capacity to respond when it matters is a significant part of what you are paying for.

The spine

Find the levers. Install the defaults. Hit your Daily 3.

That is the system. Every session, every adjustment, every protocol runs on this logic.

Included

What the engagement actually covers

12
Weekly coaching sessions over the core engagement
1
Comprehensive terrain audit at the start
Direct
Access between sessions for real-time adjustments
  • Full terrain audit: schedule, travel, eating patterns, sleep, stress, past failure points
  • Personalized Primary Levers identified for your specific life and biology
  • Defaults system built for your actual food environment, not an ideal one
  • Nutrition framework grounded in evidence: protein-first, whole foods architecture, sustainable by design
  • Training program matched to your current capacity, schedule, and joint health
  • Nine Seasons framework: strategic protocols for fat loss, travel, high-stress periods, maintenance, and re-entry
  • Real-world execution protocols for client dinners, airports, family food environments, and impossible weeks
  • Measurement guidance: how to read the data without panic-adjusting based on noise
  • Maintenance architecture built before the engagement ends, not as an afterthought

Fit

Who gets the most
out of this.

This is probably a fit if:
  • You are between 40 and 65 and the approach that worked a decade ago no longer does
  • Your life involves travel, client obligations, family responsibilities, or all three simultaneously
  • You have lost weight before. The problem has never been losing it. The problem is building something that holds
  • You want to understand the mechanism, not just follow instructions blindly
  • You are done with programs designed for someone with more time and less stress
  • You are looking for something designed to run for years, not something to peak and collapse
This is probably not a fit if:
  • Your primary goal is an event six weeks away and you want maximum short-term aggression
  • You want someone to make every meal decision for you rather than build the system that removes the decisions
  • You are not ready to change anything about your environment, the same environment producing the current result
  • You want accountability through external pressure rather than internal architecture
  • You are expecting a transformation program, a community element, or a course format

A note on timeline. This audience consistently over-estimates what is possible in eight weeks and dramatically under-estimates what is possible in eighteen months. Every failed two-month attempt teaches the wrong lesson: that you cannot do this. The real lesson is that you have been measuring the wrong timeframe. Usain Bolt trained four years to run nine seconds. We are building a system designed to run indefinitely without the peak-and-collapse cycle. That requires a different investment of time than another sprint.

Coach Jason

CJ

I work with a small number of clients at a time. That is not a marketing line. It is a structural decision.

If I am working with you, I am actually working with you. That requires knowing your terrain well enough to catch something going wrong before you feel it, and having the bandwidth to respond when the plan meets reality. That capacity does not scale to a large client roster.

My clients are professionals and parents in their 40s and 50s. High performers in every domain except this one. The work I do is built entirely around that specific context: busy lives, professional obligations, family food environments, the physiology of the 40-plus body, and the specific ways smart people keep getting stuck despite understanding the theory.

I will not take an engagement I don’t believe I can produce a meaningful result in. If we get on the call and I think a different approach would serve you better, I’ll tell you that directly.

The Process

How the application works.

There is no automated funnel here. No sequence of sales calls. The process is designed to be direct and low-friction because the right fit is obvious quickly, and the wrong fit is also obvious quickly.

  1. Submit your application

The application takes about ten minutes. It covers your professional situation, your history with this problem, your current biggest obstacles, and what you have already tried. Be honest. The more accurately you describe your terrain, the more accurately I can assess whether I can help you.

  2. I read it personally

Every application is reviewed by me, not a team member or intake coordinator. If there is a clear fit, I reach out within a few business days to schedule a brief conversation.

  3. A short call to assess alignment

Twenty to thirty minutes. Not a sales conversation. I want to understand your situation in more detail and answer any questions you have about the approach. If I think I can get you a meaningful result, I’ll tell you what that looks like and what it costs. If I don’t, I’ll tell you that too and point you somewhere that’s likely a better fit.

  4. We decide together

No pressure. No countdown timer. No urgency manufactured for a sales close. If it makes sense, we set a start date. If it doesn’t, the conversation was still useful.

On availability: I limit the number of active coaching clients at any time to ensure the quality of attention each one receives. When spots are full, there is a waitlist. The application form will indicate current availability. If you are on the waitlist and a spot opens, you will hear from me directly.

Questions

What people ask before applying.

How is this different from working with a personal trainer or nutrition coach?

Most trainers and nutrition coaches deliver a program. I build a system. A program tells you what to do under ideal conditions. A system tells you what to do when conditions are not ideal, which is most of the time. The terrain audit, the Defaults architecture, and the Nine Seasons framework are all specifically designed for the life you actually have, not the one a generic program assumes you have. The difference shows up particularly clearly during travel, high-stress work periods, and the family and social dynamics that tend to break traditional programs within the first month.

What does it cost?

Pricing is discussed on the call, not on this page. What I can tell you is that this is a premium engagement priced to reflect both the level of individualization and the direct access to me throughout. If pricing is the primary consideration and budget is constrained, the Fat Loss by Default email course covers the same framework at a fraction of the investment and is genuinely designed to be executable independently.

How much time does this take each week?

One session per week, typically thirty to forty-five minutes. Messaging between sessions as needed, which for most clients is a few short exchanges, not a daily conversation. The training and nutrition protocols are specifically calibrated for professional schedules. The question I ask in the terrain audit is not “how much time do you have in an ideal week” but “what is reliably available in the worst week you actually have.” We build to that floor.

I’ve already tried working with coaches before. Why would this be different?

That is a fair question and I won’t deflect it. If the previous coach gave you a program without first understanding your terrain in detail, the program was designed for a different person. If the engagement relied primarily on accountability and check-ins, the mechanism was your willpower, not the system. The distinction I draw is between external pressure and internal architecture. Pressure stops working when motivation is low. Architecture keeps working when motivation is nonexistent.

How long is the engagement?

The core engagement is twelve weeks. In my experience, that is the minimum duration to build the system, stress-test it against real life, and make the adjustments that convert a plan on paper into a plan that actually runs under pressure. After twelve weeks, some clients continue ongoing; others have what they need to operate independently. Both outcomes are fine.

Do you work with women? With people managing perimenopause or hormonal changes?

Yes. The hormonal reality of the 40-plus body, for both men and women, is a core part of the framework rather than a footnote. The approach specifically accounts for the physiological changes that make the previous approach stop working, and the coaching protocols include how to interpret and work with lab markers, medication variables, and the hormonal dynamics that are often the most significant missing piece in generic programs.

What if I’m not accepted?

I’ll tell you directly and explain why. If I think a different resource would serve you better, I’ll point you toward it. The application is not a barrier designed to create artificial exclusivity. It is a genuine filter to make sure the investment of time and money makes sense for both of us.

If you’ve read this far,
something here recognized something in you.

That is usually enough to take the next step. The application takes ten minutes. I read every one personally. If there is a fit, you will hear from me.
